People book people. Before someone calls a salon, a clinic or a restaurant for the first time, many of them look for a face: who runs the place, who will cut their hair, who will treat them. A clear photo of the owner and the team often does more than a slogan.
This guide covers the portraits a small business needs, the order to shoot them in, and how to keep the set consistent when the team changes.
Where the photos will be used
List the places first. The list decides the crops.
| Place | Crop | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Website About page | Horizontal, with space for text | The owner, then the team |
| Team page, booking page | Same crop for everyone | Square or 4:5 |
| Google Business Profile | Square | The owner or the team at work |
| LinkedIn, press, partner sites | Square headshot | Plain background |
| Vertical 4:5 | Portraits at work, not only posed |
If your website is due for new photos anyway, our website photo shot list covers the rooms, the products and the details. This guide is only about people.
The order on the day
1. The owner, three ways
Start with the owner while the light setup is fresh and nobody is tired.
- A headshot on a plain background: shoulders and face, looking at the camera. This is the LinkedIn and press photo.
- A half-body portrait in the business: at the counter, in the kitchen, at the chair. This is the About page photo.
- The owner at work: hands busy, not looking at the camera. This one tells the story.
2. Each team member, the same frame
Every person gets the same background, the same light, the same height and the same crop. Ten minutes each is usually enough: a few frames looking at the camera, a few with a smile, one at work.
Write the setup down: distance from the background, camera height, lens, light position. When someone new joins in six months, you shoot them the same way and the team page still looks like one set.
3. The team together
One group photo where everyone is visible, and one looser frame where people talk to each other. Shoot the group last, when everyone is already relaxed from their own portrait.
4. Work moments
A few frames of the team with customers, only with the customer's consent. A handshake at the door, a consultation, a plate going out. These go to Instagram and the Google profile.
Consent and when someone leaves
Ask every team member for written consent to use their photo on the website and social media. Agree what happens when they leave: usually you remove the photo from the team page within a set time, and older social posts stay. Write it down once and use the same text for everyone.
Keep it current
- Shoot new team members within their first month, with the same written setup.
- Replace the owner photo every two or three years, or when the look changes a lot.
- Put the team photos on your Google profile too: see our guide on the Google Business Profile in Luxembourg.
When you only need the portraits
Not every business needs a monthly content plan. If what you are missing is a clean set of owner and team photos for the website and the Google profile, it is a single shoot at your place. Book team and business portraits with Lux Photo Pro: portable lights, the same frame for everyone, at your office, shop or salon.
If you want the portraits as part of a month of content, with posts and reels around them, see content and shoots with COEVO.
